Nevada, US, November 11, 2010:

(From our Correspondent) Hindus have welcomed the reports of Lincolnshire County Council in United Kingdom (UK) allowing its schools to teach Paganism to students along with six other world religions.

Welcoming the inclusion of Paganism, Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that all religions were different ways to relate to the Divine, different responses to the Reality and were a positive sign of God’s generosity.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that a more inclusive understanding of religion was needed and we should learn to live together with mutual loyalty despite our seriously different faiths. He urged world religious leaders to leave behind selfish motives and work together for greater ideals.

Council has reportedly left to the individual schools to decide whether they wanted to teach Paganism to students or not. Currently Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Judaism are part of the religious education.

Predominantly agricultural Lincolnshire County in the east of England, headquartered in Lincoln, is the second largest of the English counties. Prominent residents include scientist Isaac Newton, poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, etc. Peter Bedford is the Chairman of the Council.

Recently, Charity Commission for England and Wales gave official recognition to Druidry as a religion.

I welcome anything that will widen the narrow and parochial views of a county that has very little multi-cultural experience and very old-fashioned ways.

as a teacher in a lincolnshire school, it amazes me that some of our young people have not been out fo the town they were born in, nor abroad. How sad is that?

Religion is a global thing, all religions are good for focus, none should be put down.
